Zahid Shoots Down Speculations On Umno Pkr Cooperation

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has shot down speculations that the party might enter into a cooperation with PKR ahead of the next general election.
Zahid (photo, above) said there is no such discussion between Umno and the opposition party headed by former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.
"Yes, Anwar and I have bumped into each other at Parliament, at weddings, but no discussions at all, be it formally or informally.
"Not with me, not with Mat Hasan," he told English daily The Star recently.
The publication had interviewed Zahid in conjunction with Umno General Assembly, which is scheduled this weekend at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre.
One week earlier, Anwar had told a press conference that there were "initial discussions" between several PKR leaders and Umno leaders.
The opposition chief also hinted there were Umno MPs supportive of the idea of a collaboration.
However, according to Zahid, no party leader had been authorised to hold such a discussion with PKR.
"You should ask him who he had discussions with, but Umno has not authorised any representative to hold such talks," he said.
According to The Star, Zahid did not dismiss the possibility of Umno exploring cooperation with PKR after the 15th General Election.
"But for now, there is no discussion, not with PKR, not with DAP, not with Pakatan Harapan."
Speculations were rife that PKR and possibly the whole Harapan coalition might join forces with Umno to face Perikatan Nasional, especially after Umno announced that it would not continue cooperation with Bersatu in the next election.
In September last year, Zahid had also hinted that "many" MPs from Umno-led BN have voiced support for Anwar to form a new government. - Mkini
