Zahid Grateful For Rosmah S Acquittal Discharge
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed gratitude for the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision to acquit and discharge Rosmah Mansor in her money laundering and asset disclosure case.
The deputy prime minister also hoped that all parties would respect the ruling concerning former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s wife.
“I would like to express my gratitude for the (decision) on Rosmah, who has been acquitted and discharged from charges of money laundering and failing to declare assets.
“When she is acquitted and discharged, it means we must respect the decision of the judicial institution. I hope no one will question this court decision,” he said during a press conference after launching the Chemomoi Agropolitan Latex Complex near Bentong, Pahang, today.
Zahid, who is also the deputy prime minister, said this after the Kuala Lumpur High Court acquitted and discharged Rosmah from 12 charges of money laundering involving more than RM7 million and five cases of failing to declare her income to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
‘Prosecution failed to show offence’
Judge K Muniandy granted Rosmah’s application to dismiss all charges against her on the grounds that the charges were baseless and the prosecution failed to present elements of an offence in the charges laid against her.
Rosmah MansorRosmah, 73, applied to dismiss the charges in September 2023, and the trial began on Dec 12 last year, after part of the case was heard with testimony from two witnesses.
For the money laundering charges, Rosmah was accused under Section 4(1)(a) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds from Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA), which is punishable under Section 4(1) of the same Act.
For the charges related to IRB, Rosmah was accused of failing to submit income tax returns for the assessment years 2013 to 2017 to the director-general of Inland Revenue on or before April 30, 2014 to 2018.
She was accused of failing to do so as required under Section 77(1) of the Income Tax Act 1967 without a reasonable excuse, which violates Section 112 of the same Act. - Mkini
