You Caused White Flag Campaign Guan Eng Tells Muhyiddin
Lim Guan Eng said the prolonged lockdowns in 2021, when Muhyiddin Yassin was prime minister, forced desperate Malaysians to seek help from their fellow citizens.PETALING JAYA: DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng has criticised former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin for taking pride in being labelled the “father of MCO”, saying the prolonged lockdowns caused a lot of hardship which resulted in the White Flag campaign.
Lim said the lockdowns implemented during the Perikatan Nasional chairman’s helming of the government also caused the nation’s economy to collapse, China Press reported.
The former finance minister said the prolonged lockdowns in 2021 ultimately forced desperate Malaysians to seek help from their fellow citizens.
“Do people still want this kind of person to be prime minister?” he asked the crowd at a DAP event in Penang yesterday.

The White Flag campaign was a community-driven movement in 2021 which was started on social media by Malaysians for those in need of food and other essentials.
It encouraged affected families to hang a white flag or cloth in front of their homes so that neighbours could render immediate assistance.
This came at a time when many were struggling to put food on the table amid an indefinite lockdown that resulted in job losses and slashed income.
Muhyiddin had drawn flak for saying it was necessary because Putrajaya was providing the needy with food baskets.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin said he had no qualms about being labelled the “father of MCO” as the decision to impose movement restrictions had saved many lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I feel proud,” he said after noting that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim had called him the “father of MCO”, the movement control order that led to lockdowns and travel restrictions. - FMT
