Yet Another Bersatu Mp Voices Support For Anwar
Yet another Bersatu MP has announced his support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, citing the well-being of his constituents.
With the backing, Tanjung Karang MP Zulkafperi Hanapi has become the sixth opposition lawmaker to “switch” allegiance to the government of the day.
“Realising the importance of political stability and smooth economic recovery, and knowing the suffering of the people burdened by the rising cost of living, I would like to pledge my support to the prime minister’s leadership from the date of this statement.
“The decision is to ensure the welfare of my constituents are well taken care of, and for the sake of infrastructural development in my constituency,” Zulkafperi (above) said in a statement today.
Zulkafperi added that support for Anwar would also mean he would back the coalition government’s initiatives and policies until the next general election.
‘No pressure, compulsion’
“To prevent any doubts, I would like to stress that I’m still a loyal member of Bersatu, and will never betray the party.
“However, to ensure the continuity of my constituency is on par with the federal government, it is far for me to be with Anwar’s leadership,” he noted.
Zulkafperi stressed that his backing for the premier is done on his own accord for the sake of his constituents, without pressure or compulsion from any party.
“To my beloved constituents, let us all support the Madani government so that our land can be blessed with the expected developments.”
It is worth noting that Zulkafperi had previously asked for Anwar to be referred to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee for allegedly misleading the Dewan Rakyat.
This is over a remark the latter made in Parliament about the “Allah” issue in justifying the government’s decision to withdraw its appeal in the Jill Ireland case.
The five other Bersatu MPs who have previously voiced support for Anwar are Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
