Nazri admitted that the impending clash between the two PKR heavyweights was causing some confusion among party members and delegates, saying both leaders were held in high regard by the grassroots.
“If (Rafizi) genuinely wants delegates to elect Nurul Izzah (as the next PKR deputy president), then he should pull out of the race.
“There’s no need to make noise (on the party election campaign trail). As it is, there is tension (within the party),” Sinar Harian quoted him as saying.
Rafizi and Nurul Izzah are in a one-on-one contest for the PKR deputy presidency, which Rafizi won in the 2022 party elections. Nurul Izzah, who did not contest then, is currently an appointed party vice-president.
Campaigning in Kedah on Monday, Rafizi raised eyebrows when he called on PKR delegates to vote for Nurul Izzah.
The economy minister said Nurul Izzah “must win” the deputy presidency as defeat would signify that members were rejecting her father, party president Anwar Ibrahim.
If he wants to pull out of the race, Rafizi must submit a form withdrawing his candidacy by 11.59pm today to the PKR election committee. - FMT
