Vote For Nurul Izzah Rafizi Tells Pkr Delegates
(FMT) – Rafizi Ramli says Nurul Izzah Anwar has to win the race for the PKR deputy presidency or Malaysians would read her defeat as party members rejecting Anwar Ibrahim.
Rafizi Ramli has called on PKR delegates to vote for his rival, Nurul Izzah Anwar, as the party’s next deputy president.
Rafizi said it would look bad on PKR president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim if his daughter were to lose the race for the deputy presidency.
“If Nurul Izzah loses, what is the message being sent to Malaysians? That PKR members are rejecting Anwar. So, because of that, Nurul Izzah must win. What other choice do we have?
“My campaign is simple: vote for Nurul Izzah. We can’t have any other result, because if Nurul Izzah loses, that means Anwar is being rejected,” he said at a campaign event in Kedah tonight.
Rafizi, who is the economy minister, also advised Nurul Izzah’s supporters to exercise caution in defending her candidacy, particularly in addressing concerns and claims of nepotism.
“I just want to advise those defending Nurul Izzah’s decision to contest – don’t issue statements that make the people feel insulted, because historically, issues of nepotism are not new,” he said.
Rafizi and Nurul Izzah are in a one-on-one contest for the PKR deputy presidency, which Rafizi won in the 2022 party elections. Nurul Izzah, who did not contest then, is currently an appointed PKR vice-president.
On Saturday, Rafizi had said that PKR leaders cannot escape being attacked with accusations of nepotism by their rivals now that Nurul Izzah is running for the PKR deputy president’s post.
He said PKR as a whole must be ready for questions from the rakyat and attacks from opposition parties on the perception of nepotism.
Tonight, Rafizi recounted that PKR was “calm” and harmonious after the party’s 2022 elections, but said things changed after the unity government was formed.
“Suddenly, there were calls to replace certain people, even though they were fully aligned with the party president.
“(Anwar) himself had said during political bureau and central leadership meetings that the positions of president and deputy president should not be contested to maintain party stability. Everyone knows this,” he said.
However, he said certain quarters were disgruntled that they could not have access to Anwar via certain top leaders, prompting a movement to oust these PKR leaders.
Rafizi paralleled this to Fidel Castro’s rise in Cuba, after he overthrew Fulgencio Batista.
He said Fidel’s brother, Raul, had taken on the position of defence minister, and that when people could not directly access Fidel, they would go through Raul. This, he said, led to unchecked influences and internal purges.
He warned against similar dynamics taking root in PKR, saying it would create “unnecessary problems” for the party.
