Pas Urges Probe Into Pkr Division Chief S Alleged Dirty Money Video
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari emphasised that this is not merely an internal disciplinary issue for PKR but potentially a violation of national laws, particularly Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2001.
“Therefore, I urge the police to launch a comprehensive investigation into these serious allegations immediately.
“At the same time, MACC must act promptly and not wait for political instructions to begin an investigation into the possible elements of corruption and money laundering,” he said in a statement.
Fadhli (above) also issued a stern warning that without an official denial or transparent explanation from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim or PKR’s top leadership, police reports would be filed across the country.
“The people have the right to know the truth and must not continue to be deceived in the name of a reform struggle that now appears increasingly filled with hypocrisy,” he added.
Fadhli expressed concern that the video purportedly indicated the funds were deliberately kept out of official accounts and labelled as "dirty money" to evade detection within the banking system.
‘Character assassination’
On Wednesday, Wangsa Maju PKR chief Lai Chen Heng broke his silence, claiming the controversial clip - where he is purportedly seen linking the “unaudited funds” to a senior political figure - was part of a “character assassination” campaign.
Wangsa Maju PKR chief Lai Chen HengLai insisted the footage was maliciously edited and distributed with the intent to mislead, and said he would leave the matter to the relevant authorities.
Previously, Lai denied any wrongdoing in the division’s 2024 financial report, labelling the accusations politically driven. He noted that the report, presented during the division’s annual general meeting on March 1, faced no objections.
PKR is reportedly preparing disciplinary action against Lai in relation to the video, with formal proceedings expected to commence after the party’s national congress on May 24. - Mkini
