Winners And Losers In Selangor Pkr Polls
Kota Anggerik assemblyperson Najwan Halimi has emerged as the sole PKR elected representative in Selangor who defeated an incumbent division chief in polling over the weekend.
Najwan, previously the Shah Alam PKR deputy division chief defeated the incumbent chief - Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail - and a second challenger, Noryzal Zainal Abidin.
“This win with a large majority is a sign that Shah Alam grassroots desires change and a younger, more dynamic and effective leadership,” Najwan (above) told Malaysiakini.
However, Rodziah is still in the running for the PKR Women chief post, in her second challenge against the incumbent, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
Najwan polled 1,213 votes to Rodziah (899) and Noryzal (513), out of 2,637 issued ballot papers.
The Shah Alam PKR division has 3,307 registered members.
Najwan added that a significant number of candidates from his team had lost to those from Rodziah’s team, but winners include Kota Damansara assemblyperson Izuan Ahmad Kasim who defeated two contenders for the Shah Alam PKR Youth chief post.
Four other Selangor elected representatives defended their PKR division chief posts against challengers.
They are Tanjung Sepat assemblyperson Borhan Aman Shah (Sepang); Lembah Jaya assemblyperson Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad (Ampang); Sentosa assemblyperson Gunarajah George (Kapar) and Pelabuhan Kelang assemblyperson Azmizam Zamanhuri (Klang).
In Ampang, Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyperson Kamri Kamaruddin and economist Azrul Azwar Ahmad Tajudin were the two challengers who lost to Syed Ahmad, better known as Altimet.
In Selayang, Rawang assemblyperson Chua Wei Kiat failed in his bid for the division chief post, vacated by incumbent Selayang MP William Leong.
Chua polled 1,648 votes against winner, Kamarudin Hussain (2,041), and a third contender, Wan Ibnul Bahar Wan Ismail (28).
Rafizi, Amirudin defended posts
As for Selangor PKR MPs, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli defended his Pandan division chief post against challenger Shahrom Musa.

Economy Minister Rafizi RamliPetaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung lost against incumbent Petaling Jaya PKR division chief, former Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian.
Selangor Menteri Besar and state PKR chief Amirudin Shari retained his Gombak division chief post uncontested.
Previously, Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister R Ramanan also announced that he had won the Sungai Buloh division chief post uncontested.
The voting in Selangor yesterday involved 22 branches - Sabak Bernam, Sungai Besar, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Selangor, Tanjong Karang, Selayang, Gombak, Pandan, Ampang, Hulu Langat, Bangi, Puchong, Petaling Jaya, Sungai Buloh, Shah Alam, Subang, Kapar, Klang, Kota Raja, Kuala Langat, Sepang, and Damansara - with a total of 92,619 voters. - Mkini
