Why Hadi Not Teresa Pas Hurt By Timing Of Deputy Speaker S Caution
PARLIAMENT | PAS has questioned deputy speaker Ramli Nor’s reminder to MPs not to use hurtful language or interrupt debates, issued just before party president Abdul Hadi Awang was scheduled to speak in the Dewan Rakyat.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu) said the timing of the reminder gave a negative impression of Hadi, who is the Marang MP.
He questioned why a similar caution was not issued before DAP’s Teresa Kok (Harapan–Seputeh) began her speech.
“Why did the honourable deputy speaker give a reminder before Marang spoke? The warning should have been given before Seputeh spoke. It’s as if Marang was being singled out.
“We’re hurt by that. He’s our president,” said Takiyuddin, demanding an explanation from Ramli.

Takiyuddin Hassan questioning the deputy speaker’s reminderEarlier, Ramli cited Standing Order 36(10)(c), which prohibits MPs from using words that could offend.
The deputy speaker said he issued the reminder because unruly conduct among MPs had frequently disrupted proceedings, and urged members to show maturity during debates.
“In this matter, did you notice when I stood up, YB Lanang (Deputy Speaker Alice Lau) was chairing the session? When I took over, it was my turn, and at that time, YB Seputeh was speaking.
“So, YB (Takiyuddin), the person who is prejudiced wasn’t me,” Ramli clarified.
House rules
Ramli then invited Hadi to begin his speech. The PAS president responded by saying he bore no ill feelings toward the deputy speaker.
Commenting on Hadi’s remarks, Ramli said he was simply enforcing House rules, regardless of who was involved - even if it were a minister or his own party president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Marang MP and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang“YB Marang, when I’m in the chair, I don’t see blue, I don’t see green, I don’t see red. I only see the House running as smoothly as possible.
“I will apply the rules fairly. I don’t care if it’s a minister, a leader, or a (party) president. I’ll enforce them as best as I can, even if it’s my own party president,” he said.
