Tok Guru Nik Aziz was never the PAS President, as DAP alleges (FMT) – A DAP MP and an Indian-based NGO have questioned the silence of the federal government and senior PAS leaders over comments by Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over a public spat on the demolition of temples in Kedah.
They said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin or PAS chief Abdul Hadi Awang need to cool down the situation.
Sanusi, in his response to the criticisms by MIC and DAP leaders, had said these leaders were speaking under the influence of the “toddy of popularity”.
Klang MP Charles Santiago alleged that his words came from a place of hate and disrespect despite being fully aware of the consequences of his actions.
He said he doesn’t deserve to be a leader, especially in a multiracial, multi-religious country.
“Sanusi obviously must know that his words can instigate hate speech and even targeted attacks against the Indians,” he said in a statement.
Santiago said Sanusi should have handled the issue in a professional manner instead of choosing to indulge in racial slurs.
“We are seeing an increase in racial tension in the country with various utterances by some leaders. It’s therefore not an exaggeration to say that Sanusi’s actions are out of place.
“If he doesn’t get this and doesn’t apologise, he should step down or be sacked by PAS for being a danger to Malaysian society.”
Meanwhile, Minority Rights Action Party (Mira) said PAS’ slogan of “PAS for all” will be rendered meaningless if certain party leaders continue to hurt other communities knowingly or otherwise.
“The PAS leadership at that time, under the late Tok Guru Nik Aziz, had shown a high level of tolerance and mutual respect.
“We are now increasingly seeing the greed and rudeness of PAS leaders who appear to be carelessly shaking the pillars of Malaysia’s pluralism and unity,” said Mira information chief Karthigesu Karuppiah.
