Where Are Pn S Non Malay Allies On May 13 Remark Asks Dap Senator
DAP senator Dr A Lingeshwaran has called out the deafening silence of Perikatan Nasional’s non-Malay allies after a PAS MP invoked the spectre of the May 13 racial riots.
He did not just take aim at PN component parties, Gerakan and MIPP, but also called out P Ramasamy’s Urimai and P Waythamoorthy’s Malaysian Advancement Party (MAP), both of which supported the July 26 PAS-led rally demanding Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s resignation.
“What is even more troubling is the complete silence from parties and organisations aligned with or sympathetic to PN.
“Where are the voices of Gerakan, Urimai, the Malaysian Advancement Party, MIPP, and others who claim to fight for the dignity of a multiracial Malaysia?” he asked in a statement.
ADSLingeshwaran urged these parties to make a clear public stand and reconsider their support for PN, which he accused of tolerating racial provocation.
‘Neglect or deliberate tactic?’
The senator was responding to Pendang MP Awang Hashim, who ignited an uproar in the Dewan Rakyat after he referenced the 1969 race riots when criticising the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) for allegedly sidelining the bumiputera community.
The PAS lawmaker cited that one of the elements which led to the May 13 riots, which left scores dead, was economic pressure.
Slamming the remarks by Awang (above) as reckless and inflammatory, Lingeshwaran said such rhetoric not only disgraces the dignity of Parliament but also endangers the racial harmony painstakingly built over the past five decades.

A Lingeshwaran“Even more concerning is the fact that such statements came from an elected MP who should have thoroughly studied the 13MP, a document already distributed to all MPs.
“Was this neglect of duty or a deliberate political tactic to create provocative ‘sound bites’ for TikTok and mislead the Malaysian public?” he asked.
Lingeshwaran urged all parties to read and understand the five-year national development roadmap in full, particularly the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan (Putera35) initiative.
He said this clearly outlines the Madani government’s commitment to inclusive and equitable economic growth.
Principles over politics
Returning his focus to PAS’ allies, Lingeshwaran said remaining silent when May 13 is used as a political threat is a betrayal of democratic values and national unity.
“It shows that for some, political power outweighs principle. I call on all principled leaders - regardless of race, religion, or party - to rise and reject the politics of hate and division.
ADS“Malaysians are watching. They will not forget who stood up for unity and who chose silence for political convenience,” he added.
Yesterday, Anwar told the Dewan Rakyat that allocations for the bumiputera under the 13MP are the highest since Malaysia’s independence.

“We all must examine the 13MP. Otherwise, allegations may arise that allocations are only given to Chinese new villages and not to the bumiputera. This shows that those making such claims have not read the 13MP document.
“Spending for the bumiputera is among the highest, including for the development of Malay reserve land in urban areas. Malaysia has never received an allocation of this scale since independence.
“Only the Madani government has had the courage to implement this. Previously, there was nothing, even though the opposition often champions the Malay cause,” the prime minister said. - Mkini
