When Politics Is Thicker Than Water
From Clement Stanley
Can anyone explain the rationale behind Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s threat to see that the people of Penang are denied water in time to come?
He has announced plans to build 14 water tanks along Sungai Muda to conserve water for padi irrigation in the event of a future drought unless the Penang government pays Kedah some RM50 million.
And unless his demands are met, the people of Penang may have to resort to using “muddy water”.
What kind of person is prepared to allow a fellow human to use “muddy water”? Even pet dogs are provided with clean water to drink.
What kind of leadership by example is he showing? Has our nation come to this when people in power now have the divine right to decide who deserves the right to natural resources?
Do we need to be unkind? Why drive a wedge between one another when there is no necessity to do so? Or is this all about money and power?
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t any religion teach you to be kind and compassionate to others regardless of their race and creed?
But for now, it would be interesting to see what the federal government’s stand is on matters involving the natural resources of the country and what it means to the rights of the citizens of this land.
Do they step in and intervene or just let it fester to the point of no return?
I guess we just have to wait and see just how decisive this present government is.
In the meantime, it would be good to be reminded of just two meaningful and erstwhile quotations that most of us, if not all, have grown up with.
“Don’t do unto others what you don’t want to be done unto you”, and “love thy neighbour as thyself”. - FMT
