What Has Saifuddin Been Doing For 3 Years Amri S Bewildered Wife Asks
Norhayati Arifin, the wife of missing activist Amri Che Mat, has questioned what Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has been doing for the last three years.
This is after Saifuddin said on Monday that he is waiting to get a detailed briefing from the police on Amri and pastor Raymond Koh’s disappearance while ordering them to reopen investigations.
Norhayati pointed out that the special task force on the case had submitted its report to the Home Ministry in 2020, and would have been available to Saifuddin when he entered office in December 2022.
“Has the home minister not read the report?” she asked in a statement last night.
The 2020 report, parts of which were later made public through court testimony in 2024, concluded that rogue police officers may have abducted Koh and Amri.
‘Govt consistently failed to deliver justice’
Besides having access to the report, Norhayati reminded Saifuddin that in June 2023, the minister had said he was bringing the report to higher-ups to deliberate on whether to make it public.

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution IsmailFurther, in November 2024, Saifuddin told Parliament that investigations into Koh and Amri’s disappearance were still ongoing and were being carried out transparently.
“I look at all these statements with sadness and disappointment. I am sad because my family and I still don’t know where or what happened to Amri after nine years, disappointed because the government has consistently failed to give any form of ‘justice’.
“I am also confused because the Home Ministry, especially, has taken steps to ensure there is no transparency in the probe, including restricting the special task force report from being released to the public.
“I ask the home minister not to give excuses that he was not aware of this issue until now,” she said.
She then advised Saifuddin to stop making statements until he has tackled serious problems that affect the integrity and reputation of the police, while also acting transparently.
RM10k a day until found
Last Wednesday, Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Su Tiang Joo ruled that the police and the government are responsible for the disappearances of Koh and Amri.
The court awarded Norhayati RM3 million in compensation - comprising RM2 million in general damages and RM1 million in exemplary damages.
In addition, the court also ordered payment of RM14,457.52 as special damages and RM250,000 in costs to the plaintiff.

Raymond Koh (left) and Amri Che MatSeparately, Su also ordered the government to pay RM10,000 a day into a trust account for Koh until the pastor is found.
The payment is calculated from Feb 13, 2017, the date of Koh’s abduction, amounting to about RM31.9 million to date.
The court also awarded RM4 million in damages to Koh, together with RM1 million in aggravated damages due to the prolonged delay in efforts to locate him, as well as another RM1 million for unconstitutional actions by the defendants.
In both cases, the court ordered the police to reopen investigations and submit progress reports to the attorney-general every two months. - Mkini
