Wee Urges Cops To Probe Phone Calls On India Egg Imports

MCA president Wee Ka Siong has urged authorities to investigate two phone calls he received in connection with the “egg saga” involving controversial businessperson Deepak Jaikishan and egg importer J&E Advance Tech Sdn Bhd.
In a statement, Wee said he lodged his report at the Cheras district police station at 1am yesterday.
“Before this, on March 17, I challenged Deepak Jaikishan to lodge a police report after he denied calling me twice on March 13 at 9.51am and 9.52am, respectively.
“I had given him three days to make the police report. Since he had failed to do so, I lodged a police report as I had promised before,” said Wee (above) today.
The Ayer Hitam MP claimed in the Dewan Rakyat that Deepak name-dropped the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the phone call and then asked Wee to produce a statement.
“I hope no one will use the name of the PMO for any unbecoming (behaviour) or for acts of intimidation nor against an MP who is granted immunity to speak in the Dewan Rakyat, as provided for under Section 63 of the Federal Constitution.
“Any form of abuse of the PMO’s name is much regretted. I will let the police investigate this matter,” Wee said.
Deepak denied making the calls but Wee subsequently revealed screenshots of the caller ID from checks on the Truecaller phone application to substantiate his claim.
At the time, Wee also challenged Deepak to lodge a police report if someone impersonated the businessperson.
Subsequently, egg importer J&E Advanced Tech Sdn Bhd admitted they called Wee and requested the Ayer Hitam MP to retract his statements on the import of eggs from India.
On Feb 22, Wee told the Dewan Rakyat that the government should resolve problems faced by local egg producers and not import eggs from India - which he said were more expensive and smaller.
J&E is the only company Putrajaya allowed to import eggs from India during a local supply shortage. - Mkini
