We Have Kk Mart Attacker On Camera Police
The perpetrator of the attempted firebombing of a KK Mart branch in Bidor, Perak was caught on camera, according to police.
Perak police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said CCTV footage caught the man stopping his vehicle by the roadside in front of the shop at around 5.35am, before throwing the petrol bomb and fleeing the scene right after.
The suspect was driving a dark-coloured vehicle that had the sticker of a delivery company on the side.
“(The complainant said) while working at the shop, she (store attendant) heard the sound of a bottle smashing in the front section of the shop and found scattered glass shards and debris resembling firecrackers on the shop floor.
“The complainant also smelled an odour similar to kerosene, believed to be from the glass shards,” he said in a statement today.
Yusri also said that police have active leads and are working to identify and apprehend the culprit.
He provided phone numbers 05-4011861 and 017-7963359 for those with relevant details to contact the investigating officer.
The case is being probed under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief, which is punishable with up to two years in jail, a fine, or both.
Yusri sternly warned against engaging in unlawful activities, reminding that such actions carry severe legal consequences.
Fanning the flames
DAP lawmaker Kelvin Yii had said that politicians fanning the flames of division are indirectly responsible for the attempted arson at the convenience store.
While Yii named no names, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh is one of the politicians who had initiated a strong campaign against KK Mart.
Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal SalehAkmal has also condemned the attempted arson, labeling the act as extreme but stressed that the boycott must continue in a "calm" manner.
KK Mart has been at the centre of controversy after socks bearing the word “Allah” were found at three of its outlets.
KK Mart and its former supplier had apologised over the matter and claimed the socks were an oversight.
The apology, as well as calls for calm, have failed to deter Akmal from pressing for action to be taken against KK Mart.
Earlier today, KK Mart, its former supplier Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, and directors for both companies were charged for deliberately causing religious hurt. - Mkini
