We Can T Release Ipic Settlement Agreement Says Guan Eng
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng asks why Najib Razak didn’t release the agreements with IPIC when he was PM.KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya is unable to release documents pertaining to the settlement agreement between Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Company’s (IPIC) and 1MDB as doing so would be sub judice, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said today
In response to the repeated calls by former prime minister Najib Razak for the Pakatan Harapan government to reveal the agreement made by Malaysia, Lim instead questioned why this was not done when Barisan Nasional (BN) was in power
“Najib is only talking about this after he was charged, knowing fairly well we cannot do so because it would be sub judice
“I would like to ask this … How come, when they were in government previously, they never released it? Only now you want to ask us to release it
“I cannot be talking about IPIC now because it is a case in court,” he said at a press conference in Parliament today
On a related matter, Lim said the latest indictment by the US Department of Justice against former senior Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner, his counterpart Roger Ng and controversial businessman Low Taek Jho proves that the “1MDB scandal really happened”
“The fact that Tim Leissner pleaded guilty proves this. This is very important. Tim admitted to wrongdoings in relation to 1MDB. This is the most concrete evidence to prove the scandal took place
“A former senior executive with Goldman Sachs admitted they were involved in this scandal, so do not say that this didn’t happen
“A big scandal occurred, but until today, there are those who still support this man. This, I do not understand, more so when the evidence is available for everyone to see,” he added
Najib is currently facing 38 charges of corruption, abuse of power and money laundering in connection to 1MDB
On the whereabouts of Low, Lim said he had already spoken to the Chinese ambassador, who has stated that Low was not in China, unless he is using a different name on his passport
“According to records, there is no record of a person called Jho Low in China. They have not processed a person named Jho Low entering the country,” he added. FMT
