We Can Even Meet Tomorrow On Bn Dissolution Mca Tells Umno
MCA has denied BN acting chairperson Mohamad Hasan's claim regarding the coalition's supreme council meeting not being held
Yesterday, Mohamad said the meeting was not called because MCA and MIC were afraid that journalists would pressure them on the motion to dissolve the coalition
However, MCA president Wee Ka Siong said this was not the case
“I wish to state categorically that I welcome the BN supreme council to meet as soon as possible
“Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow or next week... MCA representatives will table the motion of dissolving BN during the meeting,” he added in a Facebook statement today
On Dec 2, MCA's central delegates passed a motion to empower the party's central committee to push for BN's dissolution
Ten days later, the central committee submitted an official letter to the BN secretariat calling for a supreme council meeting to be convened
At the time, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was the BN chairperson. He has since gone on leave
Wee said on Jan 4, MCA received a notice from the BN headquarters that the supreme council would meet before Jan 7
“On the same day we received this notice, MCA's central committee held a meeting
“The committee unanimously agreed that the president, deputy president and secretary-general will table the central delegates' motion (on the dissolution) during this meeting,” he added
On the same day, Wee said MCA was notified through a WhatsApp message that the BN supreme council meeting has been moved to 10am on Jan 10
Following this, he added that on Jan 7, the BN secretariat, in a WhatsApp message, informed MCA that the supreme council meeting has been postponed indefinitely
At the same time, Wee said the BN secretariat invited him to attend the media conference to announce the BN candidate for the Cameron Highlands by-election on Jan 10
“Mohamad also contacted me to tell me that he received MCA's official letter regarding the dissolution of BN and asked me to meet him the next day
“On Jan 8, we met in an unofficial manner and talked about two issues – the motion to dissolve BN and the Cameron Highlands by-election. I briefed the acting BN chairperson regarding the MCA central delegates' decision and told him that I am prepared to listen to Umno and MIC's views on the matter
“Mohamad emphasised that a 'proper meeting' must be held, meaning a BN supreme council meeting to discuss the matter,” he added
Wee said he also told MIC president SA Vigneswaran numerous times that if the BN supreme council meets, MCA would table the motion to dissolve the coalition
According to the MCA president, his party had never objected to holding the BN supreme council meeting nor backtracked on discussing the motion to table the motion
Therefore, Wee said MCA should not be blamed for the BN supreme council meeting not being convened
MCA had pushed for the motion to dissolve BN following the coalition's fall from power in the 14th general election
The election last year saw MCA left with just one parliament seat - the one held by Wee in Ayer Hitam. - Mkini
