Warisan Man Sad That Hajiji Made Political Play Of Children S Scholarships
Azis Jamman of Warisan (left) said he understood that Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor needed to show himself as being equitable.
PETALING JAYA: A Warisan leader is dismayed that he was cited as an example by Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor to back his claim that he treated everyone fairly regardless of their background, including one’s political leanings.
Azis Jamman said when he and his wife approached Hajiji to obtain a state scholarship for their children, they had done so as parents and not as political opponents, The Borneo Post reported.
My wife is not a politician, and my children should not be drawn into political point-scoring, said Azis, who is the Warisan information chief.
He questioned why his children’s application for a scholarship had to be politicised when Hajiji’s grandson had the right to apply for scholarships or loans and receive government assistance.
On Sunday, Hajiji disclosed that he had personally approved a scholarship application for Azis’s children when emphasising that he had strove to treat Sabahans fairly regardless of their political background, race or religion.
I was fair when he (Azis) and his wife came to meet me at the office. Out of concern for the children we approved the scholarship for them. I never think only for my party members, but for everyone as well, Hajiji was quoted as saying.
Azis said he understood that Hajiji is pressured to present his leadership as equitable ahead of the next state election. However, Hajiji should remember that he is the chief minister for all Sabahans, and not just the members of his political party, Azis said.
He said Hajiji must recognise the difference between his role as president of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah and his responsibilities as the leader of the state. - FMT
