Tajuddin Abdul Rahman was heavily criticised by various quarters for some of his comments at the press conference on the LRT train crash, yesterday morning.PETALING JAYA: Former Prasarana chairman Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said he is yet to receive an official termination letter relieving him of his role and did not seem bothered when contacted for comment.
“Want to terminate, terminate then. What is the issue? What is the matter? Want to terminate, terminate lah. Thank you lah. I can do other work” he told the Malay Mail over the phone.
According to a letter addressed to the Umno elections director, dated May 26, Tajuddin was fired from his post with immediate effect. He was appointed Prasarana chairman on May 11 last year.
The letter comes on the heels of a public campaign calling for the sacking of Tajuddin from the GLC over his handling of a press conference yesterday, held to address Monday’s collision involving two trains on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line.
Tajuddin was heavily criticised by various quarters for some of his comments at the press conference, and accused of being rude and insensitive.
The Public Transport Users Association (4PAM) called for Tajuddin to resign following the accident, saying the absence of an immediate statement from him on the incident was disrespectful to passengers.
Klang MP Charles Santiago also called for Tajuddin to be axed, citing his insensitive comments at the press conference.
“This man must be sacked immediately for not just lacking empathy but for failing to do his job,” he said in a Facebook post.
An online petition urging him to step down also went viral, amassing close to 140,000 signatures before news broke of Tajuddin’s firing. - FMT
