Wan Saiful Takes Aim At Azmin Revives Spectre Of Sandakan Video

Bersatu supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan today raised alleged misconduct by party colleagues Azmin Ali and Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, including physical threats and cyber warfare.
Previously summoned to face a now-postponed disciplinary board hearing over the collection of statutory declarations (SD) from Bersatu division chiefs, Wan Saiful said he will be filing a counter-report against the two leaders.
“I will be submitting a disciplinary report regarding the misconduct of Azmin Ali and Tun Faisal.
“I hope and believe that all parties, including the entire party leadership, will better understand the actual situation,” he said during a press conference in Petaling Jaya attended by supporters, including Bersatu division leaders and members.
2019 video scandal
Targeting Azmin, Wan Saiful said his relationship with the Bersatu secretary-general has been “hot and cold” since last year, allegedly due to new developments in an investigation over a 2019 video scandal that implicated the then-cabinet minister.
Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali“Right after the (Bersatu) convention (last year), I received new information alleging that the forensic investigation into the intimate video allegedly involving Azmin in Sandakan found the video to be authentic.
“This made me change my opinion about Azmin, and I expressed my view to several people that as long as this ‘perverse video’ issue remains unresolved, Azmin is not suitable to be a leader in Bersatu.
“I take the position that, if it is political persecution, yes, we must defend and fight. But if it is a deviant moral issue, then it is not appropriate for a party like Bersatu.
“Other parties may be able to accept it. But not Bersatu,” said Wan Saiful, adding that he previously supported Azmin to rise within the party as deputy president.

In 2019, Azmin categorically denied what he described as “vicious libel” against him by Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, the other person who claimed to be in the video.
Shaking the seat of power
Wan Saiful today also launched fresh allegations against Azmin, claiming that the skewed narrative of attempts to topple party president Muhyiddin Yassin originated from the Gombak MP.
”Where did this distorted narrative come from that there was an effort to topple the president? It was even inserted into the president’s policy speech and has since become a polemic within the party to this day.
”And we four were then called up to the disciplinary board,” he said.
Wan Saiful said discussions with fellow leaders last week concluded that the turning point was a meeting on Aug 19, 2025, at the Bersatu headquarters, when Sepang division chief Suhaimi Ghazali and Puchong division chief Shukor Mustafa were summoned to meet Azmin.
Also present were Kuala Langat division chief Rosnizan Ahmad and Kuala Selangor division chief Harrison Hassan.

However, Wan Saiful said the duo rejected the demand, insisting that they had never signed any document to oust Muhyiddin.
”The document signed was to prevent any motion harmful to the party from being tabled at the annual general assembly. How could they withdraw something they never signed?” he asked.
Wan Saiful further alleged that Azmin went on to claim he also had the power to decide who would be fielded as candidates in the election.
“Azmin even said that I myself would no longer be a candidate. He gave the impression that the president’s power to decide on candidates was actually in his hands,” he added.
The Tasek Gelugor MP stressed that based on the chronology of events, Azmin was the first senior leader to use the “distorted narrative” to make accusations and threats against Suhaimi and Shukor.
SD mastermind ‘admission’
Wan Saiful today also named Tun Faisal as the party leader who had reported him to the disciplinary committee, and accused the latter of attempting to target him with false accusations in connection with the SDs.
In an immediate response, Tun Faisal welcomed Wan Saiful’s “admission” to being the person who gathered the SDs, as well as confirmation that the documents were not meant to pressure Muhyiddin to step down.
“Secondly, every disciplinary complaint is usually accompanied by evidence and witnesses relating to the alleged misconduct.
“Thirdly, the best place to clear one’s name and present evidence regarding such complaints is before the disciplinary board, not at a press conference,” he added. - Star
