Wait For Announcement Syed Saddiq On Muda Warisan Team Up
Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) co-founder Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is set to make an announcement on rumours that his party will merge with Warisan soon.
However, the Muar MP did not say when the announcement would be.
"We are waiting to make an announcement," he said briefly via Facebook Live last night when asked to comment on whether he agreed with the proposal for Muda and Warisan to unite.
The "Borak Jam 10" programme titled "Kita Unite" which was broadcast live also featured Warisan president Shafie Apdal.
Earlier, it was reported that Muda was considering joining Warisan to enable its activists and party members to contest in the next general election.
The move was said to result from Muda's failure to be registered as a political party by the Registrar of Societies. The group has claimed political interference over this.
Syed Saddiq was dumped by ruling party Bersatu along with a number of MPs who followed the leadership of ex-premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad into Parti Pejuang Tanahair.
Declining to follow that path, Syed Saddiq caused a stir of excitement when he launched a multi-racial vehicle aimed at providing fresh leadership, with a new generation of political activists.
In yesterday's talk, the former youth and sports minister praised Shafie's leadership, saying that his multi-racial political outlook was very good for Malaysia.
"It is quite rare for us to see leaders at the highest level like Shafie who have openly accepted the concept of a multi-racial and multi-religious Malaysia, and who has applied the concept of unity that is very strong for the state of Sabah successfully.
"As a Malaysian who is a Malay Muslim, I think this is good for Malaysia.
“It’s also good for my race, my religion and we need to establish one platform that is truly multi-racial, multi-religious, moderate, focused on reforming national policies and policy-based politics versus personal politics," said Syed Saddiq.
Warisan has changed its constitution to rebrand itself from Parti Warisan Sabah as part of its move to spread its wings to the Peninsula.
It was reported last month that the two parties were in talks about a potential tie-up ahead of the 15th general election. - Mkini
