(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says he is saddened that the projects he initiated for mosques in his constituency were cancelled when the Perikatan Nasional-led government took over.
Apologising for the lack of financial aid for mosques and suraus in the area, Syed Saddiq explained that his allocation as a parliamentarian was retracted after the change in the federal government in March 2020.
Syed Saddiq said he provided RM10,000 per year to 32 mosques in Muar in 2020 and allocated RM155,000 for the repairs of mosques and suraus, and set aside an additional RM140,000 to repair dilapidated suraus.
“I’m sad that after the change in government, all the repairs that I approved were cancelled immediately,” he said on his social media account.
“I approved it for the rakyat! Not for my (political gain) or cronies. I hope that the Malay-Islam government can just approve it.
“I’ll even support it if they put up a big signboard stating ‘Malay-Islam PN government project’, as long as the work is done.”
In March 2020, Syed Saddiq was among the various MPs aligned with Pakatan Harapan who claimed that the allocations for their constituencies were retracted, their allegations coming the same month the PN government took over Putrajaya.
Among the other parliamentarians who made similar claims last March were Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil and Johor Bahru MP Akmal Nasir. - FMT
