Veterans Group Slams Hadi For Masterminding Sheraton Move

Arshad Raji said Abdul Hadi Awang’s act plunged the nation into misery at a time when global challenges were mounting.PETALING JAYA: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has come under fire for admitting that he masterminded the Sheraton Move that caused the fall of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in February 2020.
Arshad Raji, president of the National Patriots Association of military veterans, said it was shocking that Hadi had announced this act proudly despite it being a despicable act that had robbed the nation of its democratic rights, peace, harmony and progress.
“By engineering the Sheraton Move and nominating Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime ministerial candidate, Hadi robbed the citizens of their democratic rights, desecrated the Federal Constitution and certainly pushed the monarchy into an unsavoury corner,” he said in a statement.
Hadi had said last night that he was the prime mover of the Sheraton Move as PAS felt that the then ruling coalition was moving to eradicate the special rights of Malays by ratifying the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
Arshad said the justification that Hadi helped pull the rug because of attempts by PH to ratify the convention was “most despicable”.
He said: “What is so un-Islamic about eradicating all forms of racial discrimination? Islam preaches that racial discrimination goes against the very teachings of the Prophet.”
Hadi’s action had plunged the nation into misery at a time when global health, economic and geopolitical challenges were mounting, he said. - FMT
