Verify Haj Package Offers With Tabung Haji To Avoid Scams Minister Says

Prospective pilgrims are reminded to verify with Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) before accepting any offer to perform haj to avoid falling victim to scams.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Na’im Mokhtar said no individual or company is allowed to manage haj matters without official authorisation from TH as stipulated under the Tabung Haji Act 1995.
“I urge those intending to perform haj next year to confirm first. There is no harm in taking some time to check and verify.
“At least you won’t be cheated, because out there, there are always individuals trying to scam and take advantage of others for profit,” he told reporters after attending the Haj Pilgrimage Organisers licence presentation ceremony for the 1447H/2026M haj season in Sepang yesterday.
ADSNa’im said that despite repeated warnings, there are still irresponsible individuals who attempt to deceive and profit through unauthorised haj offers.
He added that TH will continue to advise the public through various platforms, including social media, and urged the media to help spread the reminder so that no pilgrim falls victim to fraud.
The minister said a special task force, led by the police, has been established to strengthen enforcement against haj-related scams, with the participation of TH and the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry.
“TH and the ministry are both involved, and this special committee will ensure that any company or individual attempting to commit fraud faces action,” he said.
Na’im said the government takes haj fraud seriously, especially as the haj season approaches, and is reviewing measures to increase fines and impose harsher penalties to deter such activities.
“This includes ensuring that penalties imposed on irresponsible companies will be higher, but the final decision rests with the courts,” he said.
Earlier, Na’im presented haj organiser licences for the 1447H season to 31 out of 60 companies that applied.
He also urged all organising companies to offer economy haj packages for the upcoming season at the same rate as the previous year, which is below RM55,000.
