Uniting Pas Umno Obligatory Not Optional Khairuddin
Fresh from his sacking as a PAS central committee member, Kuala Nerus MP Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali issued a reminder on how Islam made it "obligatory" to pursue unity, when commenting on the relationship between his party and Umno.
"The Muafakat Nasional pact formed on Sept 14, 2019, has succeeded to reconcile two Malay-Muslim groups 'at war' for over 41 years since 1978 due to politics.
"Many shed tears of gratitude because of this unity," Khairuddin (above) said on Facebook last night.
It was the former plantation industries and commodities minister's first public statement after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang confirmed his sacking from the party's top leadership.
"This is not an issue of uniting leaders because politicians, even when fighting, can still sit at the same table to dine, drink, smile and laugh.
"This, however, involves relations between ordinary members who are genuine and sincere in their parties," he added.
He pointed out that leaders have a duty to ensure unity instead of tearing it down.
"Leaders have the responsibility to strengthen and cultivate the unity that has been built because unity among Muslims from these two large groups of more than four million members, in Islam, is obligatory and not optional.
"Those who tried to destroy the unity between two Malay-Muslim parties are surely those who are selfish and favour worldly desires above the people's interest," he claimed.
Fissure in PAS
Khairuddin, who remains a member of the PAS Syura Ulama Council, was appointed to the central committee after he was defeated in party polls last November.
PAS president Abdul Hadi AwangHe was among a group of leaders who opposed Hadi's strategy of forging stronger ties with Bersatu under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner, which has caused tension with Umno.
They prefer the Islamist party to consolidate their alliance with Umno under Muafakat.
Other leaders aligned with Khairuddin include Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz and Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki.
The trio was purged during the party polls but was reappointed into the supreme council in a show of unity.
However, Khairuddin's sacking less than two months after his appointment highlights the persisting fissure in PAS over its tussle between Umno and Bersatu. - Mkini
