Unimpressed Netizens Berate Influencer For Smashing Cups For The Sake Of Content Creation
SOCIAL media influencers wield great power these days. Many businesses, in particular those in the F&B (food & beverage) industry, fall over themselves to get the right endorsements.
This includes straight out reviews but more often than not, some influencers will resort to click bait or at the very least try a different approach to gain traction.
One such example was highlighted on X by digital creator Rosse (@Miss_Ross3) whereby an influencer and a server purport to accidentally spill a drink. Upset at the “mishap”, the influencer berates the hapless waitress who responds by offering a voucher.
Memang la content tapi rasanya tak perlu kot sampai nak pecahkan cawan??
Rugi cawan, rugi air, rugi tenaga. Banyak kerja kene kemas. Jangan normalizekan content macam ni. Makanan tak elok membazir macam tu .
Sis paling pantang betul orang membazir makanan bodoh bodoh camni. pic.twitter.com/HAqWbcFQyQ

That’s when the promo begins and the influencer informs his followers that the menu at Chang Restaurant is very reasonably priced and they, too, can get vouchers at the counter. All they had to do was show the influencer’s video – “confirm dapat” was his promise.
However, the poster frowned upon the sheer wastage of food and drink as well as the mess from the spillage, all in the name of content creation.
The post has already amassed over 702.2K views with quite a few netizens agreeing with the sentiments.
Quite a few mocked the quality of said content saying it was outmoded and outdated with one pointing out that an influencer is supposed to “review” the restaurant, not highlight a person losing his cool.

Another commenter remarked that he disliked such content that promoted “aggressive” behaviour.

While another echoed the poster’s sentiment that it was sinful to waste food just for the sake of content creation.

One netizen was highly unimpressed with the influencer’s language which he thought mocked people with visual disability.

Another reckoned that everyone was entitled to an opinion but not everyone knew how to express it properly.

One netizen suggested a boycott of shops that hired this influencer or those of a similar ilk. This would have the effect of reducing the number of influencers who resort to such tactics for eyeballs.

It does seem that this influencer has rubbed quite a few netizens the wrong way with his promo clip. And yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion.
But isn’t sharing the video simply generating more views for the influencer? He will be able to show the client spectacular numbers but who may not be aware of the negative comments being made elsewhere.
Or is this just a clever ploy to play it both ways just to boost the numbers, ie the poster Rosse and this influencer are in cahoots?
Whichever way you want to look at it, competition among social media influencers is heating up. After all, it is the number one occupation among school leavers and one can expect more risible and even controversial content to assault our senses in the very near future.
Here’s a suggestion – why not ignore such content – no clicks or comments. That way the metrics will do the necessary and those influencers who have little or no original ideas will simply fade away. – Focus Malaysia
