Umno Wants Harapan To Rebuke Antagonistic Individuals
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party would only consider statements made by Pakatan Harapan leaders as the official stance of their respective parties.
Nonetheless, he said Harapan should reprimand those who have made “excessive” statements about former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s sentence reduction.
“(Harapan should) reprimand them to withdraw, delete their writings, and apologise for being excessive,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said while no legal action has been taken against Harapan, they are monitoring “antagonistic” individuals.
“Even in Umno, we have those kacang hantu (bad people) too,” he said.
Yesterday, Umno leaders were up in arms after former DAP leader Tony Pua lampooned the Pardons Board’s decision to reduce Najib’s sentence in the SRC International case.
This prompted police reports to be lodged against Pua, leading to police investigating the former Damansara MP under the Sedition Act.
Ties with DAP ‘not affected’
Alluding to this, Zahid said he could not stop anyone from making police reports against individuals who made statements that didn’t reflect their party’s stand.
As for Umno’s ties with DAP, the Umno president affirmed that it was unaffected.
“It is not affected. As a coalition, the parties in the Madani government must accept differences but still respect the main leadership,” he said.
On Friday the Pardons Board announced that Najib’s prison time was halved from 12 years to six, while his fine was reduced from RM210 million to RM50 million.
This led to an uproar among Harapan supporters and former leaders, who were disappointed that Najib was given such leniency.
Meanwhile, Najib, his family, and Umno were also disappointed that the former premier was not given a pardon. - Mkini
