Umno Treats Mic Like Indentured Labourers Mipp Quips

The Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) came to PAS’ defence today, after the Islamist party was blamed for non-Malays rejecting Perikatan Nasional during the Ayer Kuning polls in Perak.
ADSThis followed Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi’s claim that PAS, with its purported Islamic state narrative, is hindering PN’s efforts towards meaningful alliances with non-Malay parties.
In a statement, MIPP president SP Punithan slammed Puad for making such an allegation, saying it was ironic given how Umno treated MCA and MIC.
“It is ironic to critique PAS’ narrative while overlooking Umno’s own political contradictions.
“Umno’s decades-long alliance with MIC and MCA, once touted as unbreakable, has deteriorated into a relationship where MIC is now dismissed as ‘biawak hidup’ (a liability) within BN.
“This decline stems from Umno’s preference to sideline its traditional allies in favour of courting DAP, a party with a history of marginalising Malay-Muslim and Indian concerns.
“In contrast, PN’s partnership with MIPP and PAS has been forged with transparency and mutual respect in a remarkably short time, reflecting adaptability and shared commitment to all communities,” Punithan said.
Umno supreme council member Puad ZarkashiAdding further, the MIPP chief claimed that PAS and PN have demonstrated “genuine sensitivity” to the Indian community’s struggles.
This was opposed to the Pakatan Harapan-Umno alliance, Punithan said, which he claimed had failed the Indian community.
“In the name of Kerajaan Perpaduan (Unity Government), Harapan and Umno failed miserably with MIC and with solving the plight of the Indian community as a whole.
“Rather, MIC is seen as their indentured labourers, only surfacing during elections and being seen during BN conventions.
“PN and MIPP welcome all Malaysian Indians, disillusioned by their leadership’s hypocrisy, to join our inclusive struggle for a fairer, more united Malaysia.” - Mkini
