The Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) has swatted back the “mosquito party” label at Umno, contrasting it with the bigger bugs buzzing around the Malaysian landscape such as PAS, DAP and Bersatu.
MIPP's deputy president S Subramaniam made the jab after Umno's Puad Zarkashi criticised the Perikatan Nasional party as irrelevant and that he wasn’t even aware of its existence.
In his response, Subramaniam (above) suggested that perhaps Puad should first take a good look at his own party before casting stones at others.
He also claimed that unlike PAS, Umno has a track record of betraying its allies.
Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi"Puad asked whether MIPP would be given a seat? My advice to him is, don’t meddle in other parties’ seat allocations. Look at yourself.
"What happened during the state elections when MIC and MCA boycotted by announcing they wouldn’t contest any seats?
"Umno blatantly refused to give MIC and MCA the seats they requested, causing the two component parties to sulk," he told Malaysiakini.

Subramaniam conceded that MIPP might appear like a “mosquito” compared to Umno, but reminded the latter of its standing with regard to DAP, which has 40 MPs, PAS (43) and Bersatu (31).
"What was your performance in the last general election? You contested 119 parliamentary seats. You won only 26.
"You lost badly in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Malacca, and Selangor. Didn’t win a single seat. What’s your excuse for this loss?" he added.
Umno backstabbers
He also referred to allegations that Umno did not submit MIC and MCA cabinet candidate names when PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin formed the government in February 2020.
"This is not something I’m saying - MIC president (SA Vigneswaran) himself, in a special speech during MIC’s 74th Annual General Assembly in 2021, stated that the ministerial post given to deputy president M Saravanan in the PN government was due to Muhyiddin’s own effort and not BN/Umno’s recommendation.
"That’s what I want to emphasise - that PAS is not a backstabbing party like Umno," he added. - Mkini
