Umno Open To All Options On Political Ties With Bersatu Abdul Rahman

Umno is open to various options on how the party should support the Perikatan Nasional-led government, said Abdul Rahman Dahlan
The Umno supreme council member explained that while the party is indeed supporting PN, its support is limited to that matter only
"Let's not go beyond that (for the time being)," he told reporters after attending the party's supreme council meeting held at Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon
Abdul Rahman, who is the former minister in the prime minister's department during Najib Abdul Razak's premiership, echoed the views of the party deputy president Mohamad Hasan on Umno's status in PN
"I shared my view (like Mohamad) that we should be open to every option that is available to us," he said
"However, this does not mean that we are leaving the government because the government of the day is needed to resolve the crisis," he said
According to Abdul Rahman, Umno needs to move on and it is not too early for the party to gear up for the next general election and chart the way forward," he added
The party should focus on strengthening itself, he said
Abdul Rahman was asked to comment on Mohamad's remark that the cooperation between Umno and Bersatu is on a temporary basis
Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman said the purpose of today’s meeting is for Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to give feedback to the party leadership
“There is no need for us to meet on Covid-19. We need to give feedback to the grassroots, and the members’ aspirations on the party’s future direction
“We need to strengthen Umno. We still have strength in our grassroots and we are still relevant because we have members across the country,” he said
Others who attended the meeting - which lasted over two hours - are vice president Mahdzir Khalid, and supreme council members Zambry Abdul Kadir, Annuar Musa, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and Azalina Othman Said. - Mkini
