Umno Mca S Simmering Feud Seems To Be Boiling Over With No End To Racial Religious Discord
THE writing is perhaps up on the wall for MCA to fill up the opposition void left behind by its most bitter political foe as a Malaysiakini subscriber rightly pointed out:
“A prelude of MCA leaving BN (Barisan Nasional) now that DAP has become MCA 2.0; it’s time for MCA to fill up the opposition vacuum. Come on, MCA, prove that you are not a eunuch party. You need to do something drastic to be rejuvenated.”
This came about as UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh rebuked MCA vice-president Datuk Tan Teik Cheng who urged him to reflect on why non-Malays held such a deep resentment or negative view of him.
The Penang MCA chairman had earlier chided the nationalistic Merlimau state assemblyman for threatening to sue Johor MCA deputy publicity chief Law Yiak Kwang for referring to him with the disparaging nickname of “crazy Malay” or “crazy horse”.
“Akmal’s words and actions have repeatedly triggered discontent among the non-Malay community,” penned Tan in a Mandarin Facebook (FB) post which was picked up by Malaysiakini.
“This is not just the personal opinion of Law Yiak Kwang or any MCA member – it reflects the broader perception of non-Malays towards him.
“Akmal’s attitude not only damages the relationship between BN component parties but also undermines BN’s efforts to gain support from the non-Malay community.”
But obviously, Akmal will not take such criticism sitting down no matter how constructive it sounds.
“We defend our religion and race not because we want people to like us but because of our responsibility to protect the purity of our religion and race,” rebutted the Melaka Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee chairman.
“If you touch (on our religion) and snub it, we will fight you all the way no matter what party you are from.”
The Russia-trained medical doctor even went a step further to call on MCA to reflect about who are the majority voters in the two parliamentary constituencies MCA won in the 15th General Election (GE15), namely Ayer Hitam and Tanjung Piai (both in Johor)..
“I’m afraid you’ve forgotten so I’ve to remind you. Don’t forget either to accompany your friend Law Yiak Kwang in court later, ya,”
For the uninitiated, the UMNO-MCA has in recent times been rocked by accusations of MCA feeding “sensitive matters” to its grassroots members in Mandarin as evident from a Mandarin FB post by Johor MCA which questioned federal allocations for Islamic-related matters, chiefly the printing of one million copies of the Quran and the RM1 bil annual allocation for JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia).
Recall that the 3R (race, religion, royalty) breaching statement which has since been deleted had also hit out at the Madani government’s policy of “sending military planes to ferry Palestinians to Malaysia for medical treatment while providing them with food, shelter and education”.
“Let’s fight as gentlemen, not by addressing the Malays in one way and the Chinese in another … This kind of political tactic is not new because MCA’s influence is declining,” slammed UMNO Youth EXCO member Wan Muhammad Zuhir in defence of Akmal.
“Dear Mr MCA vice-president, if you truly hold the stance that Akmal needs to self-reflect for having incited hatred towards non-Malays, I invite you to face me in an open debate. Let me know earlier if you don’t have a venue in mind.” – Focus Malaysia
