Macc To Charge 2 With Graft Over Highway Projects
The MACC probe focused on elements of corruption in the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway privatisation project and the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway project.
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained consent to prosecute two individuals, including the chief operating officer of a highway concessionaire company, in connection with a corruption case involving two highway projects in the Klang Valley.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the COO is expected to face two charges under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 for accepting gratification. Another individual, who is a project manager with a private company, is expected to face three charges under the same section.
The investigation focused on elements of corruption in the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway privatisation project, worth RM1.05 billion, and the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway project worth RM4.8 billion.
On another matter, Azam said the MACC would soon submit a report to the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) highlighting governance issues.
He said the report was based on the commission’s investigation into several issues outlined in the 2024 auditor-general’s report.
“The HRD Corp case is still under investigation. Our investigating officer had looked into several weaknesses, including procedural ones. We are in the midst of completing the report,” he said at a press conference.
In July last year, the MACC said its probe into HRD Corp, following issues outlined in the 2024 auditor-general’s report, focused on corruption, abuse of power and misappropriation of funds. - FMT
