Two Of Three Bullets Successfully Removed From Norihan

Sergeant Norihan Tari was first taken to a hospital in Kangar but was later transferred to the Penang Hospital. - Bernama picGEORGE TOWN: Two of three bullets have been successfully removed from Sergeant Norihan Tari, 39, this afternoon.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Abd Rahim Jaafar said Norihan is stable but has yet to regain consciousness following his surgery at the Penang Hospital here.
"Norihan was operated on at 1.30pm today and (the surgery) completed at about 5.45pm by a team of specialists at the hospital. Based on initial information from his doctor, he has yet to regain consciousness but is stable.
"Two bullets were lodged in his stomach, near his spine, have been successfully removed. Another bullet near his lung is still there. We will await the doctor's advice on this (the third bullet)," he said today.
Abd Rahim said the team of specialists were closely monitoring Norihan's condition at the intensive care unit (ICU).
Last night, Norihan was transferred from the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, Kangar to the Penang Hospital to undergo surgery and receive further treatment to remove the bullets.
Norihan and Sergeant Baharuddin Ramli, who was 54, were engaged in a shootout with a group of smugglers at the Malaysian-Thai border in Perlis on Tuesday.
In the 3.10am incident, Baharuddin was shot dead while Norihan was seriously wounded. Both of them were from Battalion 3 (Senoi Praaq), Northern Brigade, General Operations Force (GOF) on duty in Ops Benteng.
Yesterday, another GOF personnel was shot at while patrolling the Malaysia-Thailand border near Bukit Kayu Hitam.
In the 6.15pm incident, the personnel was conducting rounds near the border at Pos M16 Bukit Kayu Hitam when he was shot.
The personnel sustained minor injury on his abdomen from the shot that was believed to have hit his bulletproof vest. - NST
