Ipoh deputy police chief Superintendent Mohamad Sajidan Abdul Sukor said the 53-year-old woman's body was discovered by her husband, who lodged a report at 5pm.
An inspection at the scene found her body on the second floor of the shophouse, which also served as a tuition centre, along with a folding knife near her remains.
"Examinations revealed slash wounds on her neck and arms, and a folding knife was found nearby.
"It is believed that she died less than six hours before her body was found," he said on Saturday.
However, investigations at the scene found no signs of criminal elements or struggle that could indicate foul play.
Sajidan said the husband revealed that his wife had likely inflicted the wounds on herself due to distress over pain and pus in her eye.
The last time he saw her was last Thursday.
"The victim had recently undergone surgery to remove pus from her eye on Feb 19. She had previously told her husband and family that she wanted to take her own life because she could no longer bear the pain and worsening vision," he said.
A preliminary forensic examination determined that the cause of death is believed to be from the slash wound to her neck.
Police have classified the case as sudden death. - NST
