No Discussion On Alliance With Warisan Says Sabah Umno

PETALING JAYA: Sabah Umno has stressed that it has had no official discussions with Warisan regarding cooperation in the state election that is to be held later this year.
In a statement, Sabah Umno information chief Suhaimi Nasir said the party has not decided if it will form an alliance with any other political party in the state ahead of the polls.
“All the reports out there are mere speculation and do not represent Sabah Umno’s official stance.
“We remain focussed on strengthening the party and fighting for the interests of Sabahans,” he said.

Suhaimi added that the party has prepared strategies for all possibilities, and is confident it will remain the main choice of voters in the state.
Yesterday, Warisan also denied having reached an understanding with Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) regarding the allocation of seats in the upcoming state polls, Bernama reported.
Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking said claims made by a news portal about an agreement between Warisan and Sabah BN were merely speculation and assumptions.
“I have received numerous calls and WhatsApp messages from journalists, Warisan members and the public asking whether it is true that Warisan and Sabah BN have reached an understanding on the matter.
“I can confirm that no such electoral pact has been made between Warisan and Sabah BN, or with any other political party,” he said in a statement.
Leiking said the party’s political bureau and Supreme Council have not deliberated any proposals for an electoral pact between Warisan and other political parties.
On Thursday, a news portal reported that Warisan and Sabah BN had engaged in discussions to reach a compromise for the next state election, claiming that both parties were likely to avoid contesting against each other in 50 out of the 73 state seats.
The current Sabah government has until October before the state assembly must be dissolved to make way for the election. - FMT
