Tributes Pour In For Igp S Mother For Counselling Son To Retire From Police Force After 43 Years Of Service

CYNICAL or otherwise, such is the reaction of netizens to a slew of news reports on Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain choosing not to extend his contract to fulfil the wishes of his 86-year-old mother, Rahmah Abdul Rahman.
As such, Razarudin, 62, who was made the IGP under the Madani government on June 23, 2023 will step down on June 22 with the final marching-out ceremony scheduled for June 20 (he had in fact reached his retirement age of 60 when he replaced Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani as Malaysia’s 14th IGP).
The Dengkil (Selangor)-born Razarudin had joined the police force on Dec 27, 1982 as probationary inspector at the age of 19.
With a tinge of sarcasm, many netizens felt that it would be best for the nation’s top cop to bow out “than to get involved in matters that’re beyond his control”.

“He has already held high positions, already obtained a high rank, hence what else is there to chase after especially by forcing himself to follow other people’s whims and fancies? Congratulations, on your retirement, Mr IGP,” penned one of the more sensible comments.

Others are less forgiving as they reckoned that Razarudin who was appointed as the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director for a year before becoming the Deputy IGP in 2021 has under-achieved throughout his two-year tenure.
The Madani government, too, received its fair share of rebuttal, probably by pro-opposition detractors with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim accused of having manipulated PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police).
Moreover, PMX was said to have previously insulted the police institution at the height of the Reformasi movement after he was stripped of his deputy PM post in 1998.

In all frankness, many trolling was too ‘heinous’ to publish as they truly diverted from the norm of politely wishing someone in Razarudin’s situation a “Happy Retirement”.
Imagine being reminded “don’t forget to first investigate who’s the mastermind who put the drugs and toy pistol in Yusoff Rawther’s car before you retire”.

For the record, Rafique Rashid Ali, the lawyer of Yusoff who was the former research assistant of PMX had on June 13 given Razarudin seven days to respond to a police report Yusoff lodged in September 2024 which named individuals he alleged were involved in a plot against him (Yusoff).

“We await a response from you within seven days from today. Should there be no reply or should the response fail to adequately address the issues raised herein, we reserve our client’s right to pursue further legal action,” read the letter by the Law Practice of Rafique.
Yusoff was acquitted on June 12 by the Kuala Lumpur High Court of drug trafficking and possession of two imitation pistols after having spent nine months and 10 days in remand. –  Focus Malaysia
