PORT KLANG: Treated water distributed to consumers in Selangor fulfil standards set by both the Health Ministry and World Health Organisation, says a Selangor exco.
“Air Selangor has been able to maintain this standard all this while,” said state infrastructure and public amenities, agriculture modernisation and agro-based industry committee chairman, Izham Hashim.
“We won’t compromise on quality. If the treated water doesn’t meet the standards set by the health authorities, it won’t be distributed to consumers, as this would also be going against the law,” said Izham when asked to comment on a social media post by Air Selangor that stated “many consumers are not confident in the quality of raw water from Sungai Klang that is treated at the Rasau Water Supply Scheme”.
The post further stated that the water authority has taken the initiative to conduct research using the ozone to treat pollutants identified in Sungai Klang and ponds in Rasau.
“The main objective is to identify the capabilities of ozone technology in treating organic matter and metals in raw water.

“The research was conducted in collaboration with Veolia Water Technologies, an international company with expertise in water treatment solutions and wastewater treatment.
“From the research, we found out that the utilisation of the ozone system has resulted in a significant reduction in pollutants, such as metal and organic content in Sungai Klang and Rasau ponds.
“This is in line with our initiative to continuously supply clean and safe treated water to our consumers,” said Air Selangor in its social media post on Thursday (Oct 28).
Izham said he has personally seen how the ozone technology works and is confident in its effectiveness.
“It is widely used in the United States and is very safe.
“The system is expensive but highly effective on polluted water, as it doesn’t just clean water but also removes smell,” he said, adding that the Rasau Water Supply Scheme was the first to pioneer the use of ozone technology in Malaysia.
