Toyota Supra In Ditch Landing Antics Is Alleged Bangladeshi Speedster Liable For Public Damages

DRIVE like a Supra-man!
Those were among the comments that greeted a clip of a Toyota Supra gunning it and eventually finding its way into a longkang (drain) near Dewan Beringin in Gombak over the weekend (Nov 2).
While dangerous and reckless drivers are nothing new on Malaysian roads, the reason this particular incident is going viral is the claim that a Bangladeshi forex trader was behind the wheel of the ill-fated high performance two-seater coupe.
This nugget of info was apparently discovered by “resourceful netizens”.
Quite a few commenters were not impressed by the antics of the alleged driver with the foreign passport.

‘Not me driving’
However, that little tale took an unexpected twist when the Bangladesh national identified as the driver took to social media to declare he was already back home (as evident from the “EXIT” stamp dated Nov 1 on his passport).
The revelation caught some commenters by surprise. So, who was the driver of this Toyota Supra which was caught on dash cams pulling off a series of reckless manoeuvres on public roads? Were there not witnesses at the scene of the accident?

However, one commenter remained unconvinced of the alleged driver’s alibi, claiming that the passport on display belonged to someone else.

The incident was also used to stress that foreigners should NOT be allowed to commandeer their own cars.
Editor’s Note: Foreigners with valid driving licenses are allowed to drive on local roads. There is no legal basis to stop them from driving personal vehicles nor is there any valid reason to prevent just Bangladeshis from being on the road.

A quick check of the vehicle’s registration should reveal the ownership details. As pointed out by one commenter, surely there are other red Toyota Supra that did NOT belong to the Bangladeshi forex trader. One photo does not prove anything was the insinuation.

One cheekily suggested that the Bangladeshi national was here in spirit but his physical being was in Bangladesh!

Damage to public property
Regardless of the identity of the wannabe stunt driver, many Malaysian road users were unimpressed by the dangerous driving on display. Online reaction underlined that it was reckless – pure and simple – and that the driver got what he or she deserved.
On Warga Wilayah’s Facebook page, the verdict was damning as some claimed that dash cam evidence shared on other sites showed wanton disregard for the safety of other road users.

Given that this particular mishap involved damage to public property, the question also arises as to who is liable for the repairs.
As highlighted on the Drive Safe & Fast website, it was for the Public Works Department (JKR) that maintains the damaged guard rails to claim from the motorist’s insurer. If the driver does NOT have insurance coverage, he or she will be personally liable.

Few things this accident highlights.
Firstly, there are just too many avoidable road mishaps on local roads. Since there is evidence of reckless endangerment in the form of dash cam videos, the authorities need to make an example of these daredevils.
Jail time is highly recommended – not just some poxy fine – and certainly not just a claim from the authorities to fix the damaged guard rail.
Secondly, if the allegations that the driver was a Bangladeshi national are true, the pertinent question is whether did he possess a valid driver’s license? Local roads should not be more dangerous than they already are with unlicensed drivers commandeering sports cars.
Thirdly, to buyers of pre-loved cars, be wary of a Toyota Supra that comes onto the market with a too-good-to-be-true price tag! – Nov 6, 2025
