Too Soon To Decide On Polls Pact With Warisan Says Muhyiddin
The Perikatan Nasional chairman says Sabah's parties would weigh their options until the last minute.
PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said the coalition ‘has to wait until the very last minute because each party has their considerations’.SHAH ALAM: Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has declined to confirm whether PN will work with Warisan in the Sabah state assembly election expected this year
He said the matter remains fluid. “There are many possibilities. If you ask the other parties, some have already decided (on political cooperation) while some have not,” he said at a press conference after closing Bersatu’s general assembly today.
He said parties in Sabah would weigh various factors before committing to any alliance.
“The political situation there is quite different. We have to wait until the very last minute because each party has their considerations,” he said. “I think it’s not wise at this stage to make any firm commitments. There are still matters that have yet to be resolved, so we will wait for the right time.”
Last month, Warisan’s Supreme Council reaffirmed its decision to go solo in the election and contest all 73 seats. Party president Shafie Apdal said there would be “no coalitions or collaborations”.
Sabah Umno has also ruled out electoral cooperation with the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah. Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Barisan Nasional would instead work with Pakatan Harapan.
The Sabah election must be held by January 2026 at the latest. - FMT
