Coalition With Urimai And Map Not Binding Says Pas Ulama Chief
PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS ulama wing chief Ahmad Yahaya has defended the party's cooperation with parties led by P Ramasamy and P Waythamoorthy - two political leaders who had been its nemesis.
This followed Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin's announcement last month that 12 opposition parties have agreed to form a loose political coalition to champion issues which they claim the Madani government has failed to resolve.
They include Bersatu, PAS, Malaysian Advancement Party (MAP) led by Waythamoorthy, and Urimai led by Ramasamy.
Speaking to reporters this evening, Ahmad (above) said there is no issue for PAS to take part in the coalition as it was not a binding political pact.
"...it is not binding or permanent, but more of a (platform) to address current issues, such as conducting meetings between political parties to discuss costs of living.
"I think when it comes to general issues and issues that affect the rakyat, we can give room to any party to get involved and share their opinion.
"There is no problem," he said after the conclusion of PAS Ulama Muktamar in Alor Setar, Kedah.
No issue
When pressed further about PAS being criticised for joining the coalition, Ahmad said it was a narrative brought by the party's political enemies.

Muhyiddin Yassin (sixth from right) chaired a meeting with leaders of opposition parties"As long as the cooperation does not affect PAS and cooperation within Perikatan Nasional, there should not be any issue," he said.
On Aug 18, Muhyiddin chaired a meeting with leaders of opposition parties before announcing their agreement to form the coalition.
Other parties that are part of the group are Gerakan, Pejuang, Muda, Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP), Putra, Berjasa, PSM, and the National Indian Muslim Alliance Party (Iman).
PAS had come under criticism, including from Umno, for agreeing to work together with Urimai and MAP. - Mkini
