Time For Anwar To Pull Plug On Umno Bury Loonies
Umno, Malaysia’s once-mighty political titan, is a rotting husk - its veins clogged with the greed of its old guard, the reckless bluster of its new blood, and the fading echoes of its BN empire.
For decades, Umno ruled with an iron fist, its financial machinery built on state plunder and corporate cronyism, propped up by a coalition that bent Malaysia to its will.
Now, it’s a dying beast, and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has his boot on its throat - ready to crush not just Umno, but BN itself, ahead of the 2027 election.
This isn’t dismantling; it’s annihilation. Anwar’s tearing Umno and its coalition shell apart brick by brick - choking their cash, crushing their legacy, and silencing their loudmouths - to ensure no flicker of resurgence survives.
Not from the Dr Mahathir Mohamad-Daim Zainuddin crypt, not from Najib Abdul Razak’s jail cell, not from Dr Akmal Saleh’s hardline circus, and certainly not from Khairy Jamaluddin’s podcast pulpit or BN’s hollowed-out machinery.
By 2027, Anwar’s endgame is clear: Umno and its past allies - MCA, MIC, and the rest - will either march under his Pakatan Harapan banner or vanish into irrelevance.
Starving the beast, BN’s corpse
Umno’s lifeblood was always money - billions churned through a patronage mill that Mahathir and Daim engineered in the ‘80s and ‘90s, with BN as the delivery system.
Privatisation wasn’t progress; it was a heist. Companies like UEM and Renong, tethered to Daim’s genius, gorged on infrastructure deals - highways, towers, power plants - while funnelling profits to Umno’s war chest and BN’s electoral dominance. Mahathir handed Umno RM1.2 billion in 2003, a parting gift from his era’s loot.

The late businessperson Daim Zainuddin (left) and former PM Dr Mahathir MohamadNajib globalised the grift with 1MDB, a US$4.5 billion scandal that bankrolled BN’s 2013 squeaker of a win - until the house of cards collapsed.
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, now Umno’s president and Anwar’s deputy PM, allegedly siphoned RM31 million from Yayasan Akalbudi, a charity turned personal piggy bank - rice sacks for the base, Rolexes for the elite.
Anwar’s weapon is brutal simplicity: cut the cash and let BN suffocate alongside Umno. Zahid, shackled to Anwar’s coalition government, is a gutted comptroller - party funds evaporate, branches wither, and loyalists starve.
MACC, Malaysia’s anti-corruption agency, dismantles Daim’s empire - Ilham Tower seized, his family probed - while Mahathir’s sons dodge the net. BN’s financial spine, long reliant on Umno’s muscle, is snapping.
Anwar’s starving the beast and its coalition husk, ensuring PKR can poach Umno’s Malay base and BN’s remnants with promises and payouts. By 2027, BN’s war chest will be a memory - its parties broke, its machinery rusting, its candidates begging for Harapan’s scraps.
Ghosts of greed haunting dead coalition
The architects of Umno’s wealth - and BN’s reign - are its Achilles’ heel. Daim’s estate faces charges for hiding decades of dirty assets. Mahathir, 99 and snarling, cries “witch hunt” as his son Mirzan squirms under scrutiny.
Najib, jailed but scheming, saw his sentence halved in 2024 - Anwar’s calculated sop to Umno’s remnants - but it’s a dead-end appeasement. Zahid, dodging 47 graft charges in 2023, clings to power as a puppet who’s lost the plot.
These men weren’t just Umno; they were BN’s soul, its wallet, its rot. Their cronies - Ananda Krishnan and Vincent Tan - once bankrolled a coalition that owned Malaysia’s political map.

Anwar’s tearing them down, brick by gilded brick, ensuring no tycoon can resurrect BN’s glory days. This isn’t just about Umno’s collapse - it’s about burying BN’s ghost.
By 2027, MCA and MIC, BN’s battered junior partners, will have no sugar daddies left. Anwar’s forcing them to choose: defect to Harapan or fade into oblivion. The old guard’s public execution is a signal - no coalition revival, no independent comeback.
Akmal and hardline lunatics
Umno’s younger brigade - louder, dumber, and clinging to BN’s fading banner - is a liability Anwar can’t tolerate. Akmal, Umno Youth chief since 2023, is the poster boy - a hardliner spewing racial rhetoric and Malay supremacy.
His Facebook rant after Najib’s sentence cut - “We were played. The time has come” - was a tantrum, not a plan. X posts frame him as a right-wing loose cannon, clashing with academics like Prof Tajuddin Mohd Rasdi, who wants his ilk muzzled.
Akmal’s not alone. Shahril Hamdan, Nurul Aman Mohd Fauzi, and Khairy amplify the noise, betting on divisive stunts and podcasts to rally a shrinking base. They’re not leaders; they’re loonies, thriving on chaos where Umno’s old money and BN’s clout once ruled.
Anwar’s not blinking. These brats threaten his reformasi vision - pluralism over tribalism, governance over gimmicks. He’s got the firepower: freeze their funds, sideline their platforms, and let PKR’s grassroots outflank them.
Akmal’s career needs a public, painful end - a by-election thrashing, a party purge. Zahid’s already choking the youth wing’s cash flow - starve the pups, and they go quiet. By 2027, these hardliners will be irrelevant, their BN nostalgia a losing ticket. Anwar’s forcing them to heel or defect - no third path.
Anwar’s endgame
This isn’t dismantlement with a scalpel; it’s a sledgehammer to Umno and BN alike. Anwar’s playbook is ruthless: bankrupt their finances, disgrace their old guard, bury their young turks, and turn BN’s switch off for good.

Coalition government leaders at the Unity Government Convention on May 14, 2023MACC’s raids, PKR’s poaching, and Zahid’s leash fracture Umno’s base - some defect, others fade. BN’s smaller parties, bereft of Umno’s cash and clout, face the same fate.
Deregister Umno by 2026 - call it broke, call it corrupt, call it history - and let BN dissolve with it. Mahathir’s legacy, Daim’s shadow, Najib’s loot, Akmal’s rants, KJ’s airwaves - all ash.
For 2027, Anwar’s not just pulling the plug; he’s salting the earth. BN must be fully dead - no flickering coalition, no rogue campaigns. Umno and its past allies - MCA, MIC, whoever’s left - will run under Harapan’s banner or not at all.
Anwar’s corralling their candidates, their voters, and their machinery into his fold. PKR absorbs the Malay heartland; Harapan rebrands BN’s carcass.
The narrative’s locked: Umno’s a corpse, BN’s a tombstone, and Anwar’s the undertaker. Reformasi demanded a reckoning - this is it.
By 2027’s election, BN’s logo won’t haunt a ballot, and Umno’s remnants will salute Anwar’s flag.
His legacy? The man who killed the kingmaker, buried its coalition, and built a new Malaysia on their graves. - Mkini
