Tiktok Top Guns Called To Bukit Aman On Sept 4 Meta Next Fahmi
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the top management of TikTok had been summoned to Bukit Aman on Sept 4 to discuss its alleged slow response to misinformation on the platform.
He said the meeting will involve the inspector-general of police and representatives from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
Meta will also be summoned soon, he shared, but did not divulge details.
Citing a case involving a fake pathologist, Fahmi alleged that TikTok was so slow in cooperating with the police that he had to reach out to its CEO, Shou Zi Chew, for assistance.
“Recently, there was this case of a fake doctor, claiming to be a pathologist. TikTok was so slow in giving information to the police that I had to personally call the CEO.
“This is a crime being committed, and your organisation is slow. We can’t let this pass, and InsyaAllah, there will be a meeting at Bukit Aman,” he said.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the AI Grand Prix Conference 2025 at the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute in Kuala Lumpur today.
Suspect tracked down
On Aug 16, MCMC identified the individual behind the TikTok account “Dato’ Prof Dr Tunku Iskandar”, who impersonated a pathologist and claimed to be involved in the post-mortem of 13-year-old student Zara Qairina Mahathir.
In a statement, the commission said the Health Ministry confirmed that the suspect is not a pathologist.

“The suspect was traced near the Kota Damansara area late last night, following information obtained from the statements of two individuals who had participated in the same TikTok live session.
“The suspect was subsequently brought to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters to have his statement recorded. His communication devices were also seized for further investigation and analysis,” it added.
Illegal content on Meta platforms
Fahmi said there are issues with Meta’s platforms too, citing paedophilia content as an example.
Based on the police’s recent Op Pedo, much of the content was spread using WhatsApp and Facebook, the minister said.
“However, if you look at the platforms, they are not serious (in addressing the problem).
“So, we will continue with the dialogues and stress that Malaysian laws also apply to them and they must comply,” the Lembah Pantai MP added.

On June 19, the police nabbed a university student after it was discovered that the latter had at least 5,000 child sexual abuse materials and adult pornographic content on his devices during the Op Pedo raid.
The New Straits Times reported that some of the content was produced by the 20-year-old suspect himself and involved two children. - Mkini
