Those In Umno Still Supporting Pm Looking For A Disaster Says Puad
Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi says the number of MPs supporting the government is dwindling. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Umno members maintaining their support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin after the party’s decision to withdraw its support for the Perikatan Nasional-led government are “looking for a disaster”, Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has warned.
However, Puad stressed that the number of Umno MPs who still backed the government is dwindling.
He said the resignation of energy and natural resources minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah proved that ministerial posts were no longer able to “buy” the support of Umno members.
“Why did that happen? Because (Umno members) only have two choices – in favour of the Agong or the prime minister, who is seen as disobeying the King,” he said.
With support for his administration waning, Puad urged Muhyiddin not to delay his resignation as prime minister.
“The final whistle has been blown many times. There is no more extra time,” he said.
Yesterday, FMT reported that at least 11 MPs were understood to have made declarations that had been sent to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong that they were withdrawing their support for the prime minister.
It is understood that this includes Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Bagan Datuk), Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan (Pontian), Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Gua Musang), Najib Razak (Pekan), Azalina Othman Said (Pengerang), Mohd Nizar Zakaria (Parit), Azeez Abdul Rahim (Baling) and Noh Omar (Tanjung Karang).
Other MPs purported to have done the same are Ramli Mohd Nor (Cameron Highlands), Ahmad Nazlan Idris (Jerantut) and Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Machang).
When announcing his party’s stance yesterday afternoon, Zahid said the declarations were sufficient to show Muhyiddin had lost his parliamentary majority. - FMT
