This Is Bangsa Malaysia Chinese Villagers Come To Hari Raya Travellers Aid
The arduous journey back home for Zairul Annuar and his family after celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri was made memorable this year, thanks to the help of a group of Chinese villagers who helped smooth the way.
On his Facebook page, Zairul said they had initially left Ipoh, Perak using the highway, but the grinding traffic jam on their way to Nilai, Negeri Sembilan prompted Google Maps to suggest several detours that led them through backroads.
The initial detour took them near Ladang Bikam in Perak, but that road too became congested.
This prompted them to take another route that eventually led them through a village and a small residential area before encountering an unpaved road cutting through a dark oil palm plantation.
The road was supposed to be clear, but Zairul and others were eventually forced to make a U-turn as the road ahead was too rough to traverse.
However, their fortunes turned for the better when they passed by the residential area again and were stopped by a group of Chinese residents.
“(One of them told us) ‘Boss, are you going back to KL? Don’t (continue) going the other way. The road earlier was impassable, right? Don’t worry, we will use a backhoe to repair the road’,” Zairul recalled.
He said the group also told them that the road back to Ladang Bikam was in gridlock due to an accident.
Not long after, Zairul and his family were back on the previously impassable road, and on their way home.
“I felt very touched. The Chinese residents here were caring and wanted to smooth the journey of Malays who were going from their hometowns towards Kuala Lumpur.
“They came out of their homes to work together. The Chinese people of Perak are amazing. This is Bangsa Malaysia,” he said.
Zairul said their journey from Ipoh to Nilai took six and a half hours to complete.
