Third Covid 19 Wave Is Just Too Long Says Kit Siang

DAP leader Lim Kit Siang says the underlying causes for the long third Covid-19 wave must be ascertained.PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is facing one of the “longest’ Covid-19 waves in the world, and the DAP has asked the prime minister to commission a report to get to the root of the problem.
Party stalwart Lim Kit Siang said Muhyiddin Yassin should also order another report on the “lethargic” national vaccination rollout to find ways to complete it before Malaysia Day on Sept 16.
He said the two reports must be presented to the Cabinet at its meeting on Wednesday, as the third wave of the Covid-19 did not seem to be abating.
“The report should look into the reasons why Malaysia is facing one of the longest Covid-19 waves in the world.
“The third wave in Malaysia, largely triggered by the Sabah state election last September, has not been brought under control. This is because the daily number of Covid-19 cases has not come down to triple-digit or double-digit figures,” he said in a statement.
The second report, said the Iskandar Puteri MP, should find ways to expedite the vaccination programme so that it can be completed between National Day on Aug 31 and Malaysia Day on Sept 16.
“Special attention must be given to Sabah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Kedah and Perlis as registrations for vaccination in these states have not even reached 20% as of now,” he said, adding that both reports should be made public.
Yesterday, it was reported that new Covid-19 cases had risen to 1,576 from the previous day, which recorded 1,213.
Lim said this was in spite of it being the 14th day the daily increase of new Covid-19 cases had fallen below 2,000. - FMT
