The Kind Of Economic Management We Have
I DON'T wanna contemplate what's brewing at the top. It's their business, it's their turf. I am just concerned about the economy which is already having an adverse bearing on the nation and its people. Worry is not my domain now, it is becoming a social epidemic.
Our bosses seem to be enjoying their foreign trips, trying to lure investors to choose Malaysia as their FDI platform. Much money was spent on it but the results are very disappointing. Apart from collecting medals and accolades, and bluffing about the Malaysia Baru and its supreme development, they usually will return empty handed.
Locally, people are talking sense about the spiraling cost of living, the growing disparity gap between urban and rural, affordable homes getting expensive, lack of work opportunity for the youths and difficulty in making ends meet.
On the international front, investors are taking 'wait and see' stand as to whether bet their money on Malaysia or not as there are no indications whatsoever that the tax regime imposed by the government would help them prosper.
Similarly, the SST re-introduced last year has been eating out many businesses and industries because the tax mechanism is not transparent enough. While two-third of the world countries subscribe to GST, Malaysia has taken a politically-motivated move to make a big U-turn on it. As a result, investors are shying away, some of them had even transferred their business to other nations, notably Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.
We are moving into a deadlock economic strata where the country rejects the world standard in managing it. We keep harping on the blame game - that the previous government has ransacked the economy and the trade war between the United States and China is making countries like Malaysia suffer. What a bullshit!
With the ringgit declining further to almost RM4.22 compared to a dollar, falling to Singapore dollar and Thai baht (what's the rate now? Is it still RM1.65 to 10 baht as per last week?), we are in a stressful situation.
And when other Asean nations applied their own resistance mechanism as a positive method to weather the negative impacts of the US-China trade war, we still believe and rely heavily on our 'strong fundamentals'.
Who is managing our economy right now? What happens to the economic advisers and geniuses hired by the government to address this grueling nightmare?
Accolades and foreign honors do not guarantee anything to the economy, to the nation and to the people. With presence situation, the prime minister has so much tasks ahead to prosecute, and hopefully he will.
Stop to the blaming game, and stop accusing Donald Trump of bullying the small nations. You don't have to be a six-footer in order to become a good footballer... all you need is how you use your legs and brain to dribble the ball around!
