Teresa Kok Denies Approving Inflated Smart Tv Allocations

DAP MP Teresa Kok issued a statement on Facebook denying approving allocations for the purchase of LG smartboards and Smart TVs for 16 schools in her constituency, adding that she did not influence the investigation by graft busters at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Kok clarified that two former staff members — arrested by the MACC last week — who managed the finances of her service centre and government allocations in her parliamentary constituency resigned last year.
The investigation is believed to be tied to inflated pricing in the purchase of LG smartboards and Smart TVs for 16 schools in her constituency, she said.
“I believe the MACC investigation is related to the inflated pricing issue involving the purchase of LG smartboards.
“In late October 2024, I was informed by the Federal Territory Implementation Coordination Unit that the allocation for my constituency had been used to channel RM99,000 to each of the 16 schools for the purchase of smartboards and Smart TVs.
“However, I never approved any allocation on such a large scale. Further investigations revealed that the company that issued the invoice did not exist – it was a fake entity,” she said.
Moreover, an official LG electrical supply distributor confirmed that the actual cost for three smartboards and three Smart TVs should have been RM55,299, not RM99,000.
Each school received RM99,000 in government allocation for the equipment. However, Kok revealed that the actual market price for three smartboards and three Smart TVs per school was only RM55,299, resulting in an overpriced difference of RM43,701 per school — amounting to a total discrepancy of RM699,216.
She also denied lodging reports with the MACC or influencing the investigation, especially with DAP party elections approaching on 16 March 2025. The arrests have sparked speculation and unfounded allegations on social media linking her to the case.
She expressed her commitment to cooperating with the MACC to uphold transparency, emphasising that the case involves a serious breach of public trust and aligns with the DAP’s core principles of good governance, integrity and social justice. — Focus Malaysia
