Tengku Zafrul, who is accompanying Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on an official visit to Australia, was quoted by Malaysiakini as saying that he would file the report upon his return to Malaysia.
“There is a video that has gone viral on social media implying that I was involved in misconduct following my presence at a product launch in 2023.
“I accepted the invitation in good faith and our team had no prior knowledge of the allegations or implied impropriety raised in the video.
“Therefore, my team has started an investigation into this matter, and I will file a police report as soon as I return to Malaysia so that an official investigation can begin,” he said.
Tengku Zafrul urged anyone with evidence of any wrongdoing to file a report with the authorities.
In a TikTok video that has gone viral, a man claimed that he was paid RM800 to act as a foreign CEO of a company in a memorandum of agreement (MoA) signing scam allegedly involving the minister.
The man claimed that the company then went on to use the fraudulent MoA to raise RM36 million.
He said he was formerly a director of strategic planning at a top advertising firm, adding that a top client of the firm then was former prime minister Najib Razak.
Directing the video to the attention of Anwar’s senior political secretary Shamsul Iskandar Akin, the man also claimed to have tried to engage deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and economy minister Rafizi Ramli on the matter.
