Temple Not Illegal Muslims Anger Due To Lack Of Info Saravanan
Muslims consider the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple on Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur, to be an illegal structure due to a lack of accurate information, said MIC deputy president M Saravanan.
ADSHe explained that the temple has stood for over 100 years and has never been relocated since its establishment.
However, Saravanan (above) stated that he does not blame Muslims for being upset, as they lack the correct information regarding the land's status.
“If I were in their position, I would also be angry because they do not have a clear picture of the temple’s existence.
“This place of worship is over 100 years old, and it has never been demolished.
“In 2006, when road-widening works were planned, the temple was asked to demolish its kitchen and the living quarters of the priest to allow the work to proceed,” he said during a press conference at the temple grounds this morning.
Yesterday, in a statement published on the Tamil-language news site Nambikai, Saravanan addressed false claims that the land was sold during his tenure as the deputy federal territories minister from 2008 to 2013.

“It was alleged that MIC made a mistake in this matter.
“Specifically, they started spreading false information that the land was sold while I was the deputy minister,” he said.
According to Saravanan, when the temple faced the threat of demolition in 2006, MIC took action to protect it.
He added that the temple was rebuilt and inaugurated in 2008 with support from the then MIC president, S Samy Vellu.
‘Resolve issue harmoniously’
Saravanan further clarified that the land where the temple stands was only sold at a later date.
ADSThe MIC leader stressed that the issue should be resolved harmoniously in a “win-win” manner.
Saravanan also expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and government leaders for ensuring that the temple would not be demolished.

Additionally, he confirmed that discussions were ongoing between the landowner, Jakel Trading Sdn Bhd, and the temple management.
“It is true that they (Jakel) are making efforts to resolve this. The solution must be a win-win, and the temple must remain in this area.
“Now that the government has initiated negotiations, we should leave it to them,” he added. - Mkini
