Tei S Lawyer Slams 6 Month Delay Urges Action On Musa S Son In Law
Whistleblower-businessperson Albert Tei, who blew the lid off the Sabah mineral prospecting licence scandal, is urging the attorney-general (AG) to hasten action against Arifin Arif, the son-in-law of Sabah governor Musa Aman.
On Feb 6, Tei filed a police report against Arifin - one of the individuals accused of taking bribes in exchange for a prospecting licence - for allegedly filing a false report.
This was a day after Arifin’s Feb 5 police report, which alleged that a Feb 3 Malaysiakini article was inaccurate, misleading, and filled with false and slanderous claims.
The article was on a settlement offer that Arifin (above) allegedly offered Tei to silence him.
ADSTei claimed that Arifin told him the former’s mineral exploration licences would be reinstated if he retracted his bribery allegations, and that a media statement was also prepared for him to describe the funds as political donations.
“As is common knowledge, my client Albert Tei lodged a police report on Feb 6, 2025, concerning a false police report lodged by Ariffin.
“Since then, my client has been compelled to repeatedly seek updates from the authorities and, in the absence of progress, was forced to escalate the matter by lodging a complaint with the Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC).
“Such steps should never have been necessary for a citizen who has acted responsibly in fulfilling his civic duty,” said Tei’s lawyer, Mahajoth Singh, in a statement.

Lawyer Mahajoth SinghMahajoth said that via a letter dated Aug 7, 2025, the head of Dang Wangi district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department (CID) confirmed to him that investigations had been completed, and the investigation papers were submitted to the deputy public prosecutor on Aug 5, 2025.
“The ball is now in the AGC’s court. While we acknowledge that the AGC requires time to review the papers and make a decision, it has already been six months since my client’s police report was lodged.
“It is absurd that a complainant should have to wait this long for justice, and it would be wholly unacceptable for the matter to be left unresolved for yet another prolonged period. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done.
“Whilst my client remains ready to cooperate fully with the authorities, he awaits the AGC to act with the urgency this case demands, in the interest of fairness, transparency, and public confidence in the rule of law,” Mahajoth added.
Last November, Malaysiakini exposed an alleged mineral licence prospecting corruption scandal based on a series of leaked videos, which to date has seen only two lawmakers charged, alongside Tei.
Apart from Sabah Chief Minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairperson Hajiji Noor, the series of leaked video recordings also exposed alleged dealings involving various state ministers and assemblypersons.
All the GRS leaders whom Tei accused of accepting bribes from him have denied the allegations. - Mkini
